The Fair Close Centre has just welcomed its 70th volunteer to the team who help run the drop-in community centre for older people in Newbury and the surrounding area. Established in 1967, Fair Close offers a place to meet over a coffee or a hot lunch, a programme of entertainment and creative activities, services such as hairdressing and chiropody, a Meals on Wheels service as well as providing a minibus transport service for those who need it.

Alongside the staff team who run the Centre, volunteers fulfil many roles from manning the coffee shop, serving lunch and organising activities and events to helping in the Kennet Centre Bookshop, delivering Meals on Wheels as well as running the charity shop.

CEO, James Wilcox said, “Volunteers are the lifeblood of an organisation like Fair Close and we are extremely grateful to every single one of our 70 volunteers for all that they do to support the work of Fair Close in so many ways. With an increasing number of members, our volunteers are vital to the work that we do in providing a place for older people to meet and make friends, have a hot meal, access advice and support and so much more. A huge thank you to all our volunteers from us all in the Fair Close community!”
