Local PCSO Sue Gillespie wanted to thank the team at the Fair close Centre and to celebrate the difference that our service has made to her father, particularly the support of Welfare Manager, Teresa.
“I have visited the Fair Close Centre many times as your local PCSO in the past and that’s when I first met Teresa. She always impressed me with her caring nature and obvious flair for making the older members of our community feel valued and special.
A few years ago, after my Mum passed away, I managed to get my Dad moved down here to Newbury. On my visits to Fair Close, I talked to Teresa about my concerns about my Dad moving to somewhere he only really knew from visits to see me, after living in Scotland all his life. Teresa took the time to help me introduce Dad to Fair Close, inviting me to come to the lunch club for his first visit, and then she supported him further on his subsequent visits which I encouraged him to go on his own.
Then lockdown happened.
I don’t know what I would have done without Teresa during this awful time. She faithfully rang Dad every week without fail at a time when he was feeling very low and trapped within his own four walls. Teresa also gave me help and advice when I was worried about Dad and several times has talked to his doctor on my behalf when I was at work and couldn’t do so.
Teresa is one of life’s diamonds and someone who has a heart of pure gold. She has become a very important part of Dad’s life and a huge support to me. Dad looks forward to his phone calls from Teresa and I think her dedication and care should be acknowledged and celebrated.”
Our thanks to Sue Gillespie for sharing her story with us.
