Fair Close Dementia Co-ordinator

All activities are led by our Dementia Co-ordinator, Fay Freemantle.

Fay has many years of personal experience in caring for various family members. She also worked for the Alzheimer’s Society as a dementia adviser for nearly 12 years, until June 2024 when she joined the Fair Close Centre. She is accustomed to speaking about aspects of dementia at information events, and has experience of running Activities Groups, Singing for the Brain groups and Carer Support Groups.

Fay says, “Whilst a diagnosis of dementia is an undeniably life-changing event, with the right support for the whole family it’s possible to live better for longer. At Fair Close we are proud to offer a range of services to suit the changing needs of older people. #fairclosefamily “

Dementia Respite – The Camellia Club

The Camellia Club will launch in March 2025 and will enable you to spend the day doing something you enjoy in a safe, supportive environment. You can take up new hobbies or continue doing old ones: our Club provides something fun for everyone, with activities tailored to the needs of people living with dementia.

A typical day could include coffee, current affairs discussion, then activities, lunch, quiet time with puzzles or books and finally music.

We also have a fantastic Digital Activity Table. This is a large touch-screen device that offers people an opportunity to engage in stimulating apps and games designed to improve cognitive function and mental agility.

Whatever you choose to do we want you to leave with a smile on your face!

The Camellia Club will operate 2 days a week from 10.00am to 3.00pm for just £60 per day including a 2 course lunch and tea, coffee and biscuits.

There may also be an opportunity to participate from 13:30-15:00 one afternoon a week, depending upon availability.

How to join the Camellia Club

To learn more call Fay on 07938 023 256 or email camelliaclub@fairclosecentre.org

Please note that we cannot support with transport to or from the club, offer personal care of any kind or deal with medication.

Rosemary Café

The Rosemary Café is a vibrant, friendly dementia café where everyone feels included, and carers feel supported. We organise activities for people living with dementia accompanied by family carers, which include music sessions, art and crafts, quizzes and games; and we offer information, support and signposting to family members.

Support for Carers

Looking after someone living with dementia can be extremely rewarding but can also involve a considerable amount of work and, here at Fair Close, we understand the stresses involved. It is important to try and take some time for yourself. Staying well and getting the right kind of support will help you take care of your loved one, and will enable them to live better for longer.

Using the Camellia Club for respite can give you time to relax or get some chores done.  Your loved one will enjoy being with us and leave with a smile on their face.

We also offer a Carer Support Group.  This gives you the opportunity to talk with other carers from the comfort of your armchair, and to exchange ideas and tips about caring for your loved ones and yourself and, occasionally, to laugh.  Carers understand each other’s dementia journey, and support each other along the way.  Fay Freemantle facilitates the group, and offers information and signposting. If you’re uncertain about ‘getting online’ she will arrange a practice session beforehand.

The Carers Online Support Group is held on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 10:30am – 11:30am on Zoom. This gives you the opportunity to chat to other carers and seek advice from Fay Freemantle, our Dementia Co-ordinator.

For more details or to book your spot, please contact Fay Freemantle on 07938 023256 or email ffreemantle@fairclosecentre.org
