VE Day 80th Celebrations at Fair Close

May 19, 2025
A great time was had by all at the VE Day Celebrations on 8th June.  Massive thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Fair Close who decorated the main hall beautifully and treated us to a fabulous fish and chip supper.. Kitty Mazinski was in fine voice, treating us to our favourite tunes from the 40s and 50s.  The town crier was also in fine voice!  Our guests were also treated to an amazing 40s hair make-over so everyone was looking their best for the festivities.
We also celebrated VE Day at the Camellia Club last Thursday, beginning with a discussion about the meaning of VE Day and the impact upon the rest of the world, as well as upon us as individuals. We also used our ‘magic tables’ to access this fabulous website showcasing some fascinating objects: Victory in 80 Objects – The D-Day Story, Portsmouth which stimulated yet more conversation; and then, after lunch, we had an afternoon of outdoor games we used to play as children, which we enjoyed playing indoors. We even had a visit from the Town Crier and his little dog, courtesy of our Fair Close Welfare Officer, Teresa!
